What is a Vestry?

The Vestry is the governing body of an Episcopal Church, elected to represent the people of the Parish. At St. George’s, our vestry is made up of nine Parish members including the Rector’s and Accounting Wardens, and the Rector. The Wardens and Vestry members are elected at the Annual Parish Meeting held each January, and serve three-year terms of office.

The Vestry serves in a fiduciary capacity, responsible for many facets of parish life including its business affairs.  At their monthly meetings, the Vestry reviews appropriate business affairs, engages in study and discussion for self-improvement, and prayerfully considers the needs, goals, and the vision of the Parish.

Our Vestry members each operate on one of several sub-committees.  For a list of those sub-committees and their descriptions, follow the link below.  If you have a question about any part of our church’s business, worship, or activities, the Vestry Members on these committees (included in the list in the left-hand column) would be a good place to start.
